T/A:

Trauma Recovery

Hazel Katherine Larkin

Mum of two home born babies. The first arrived in India in 2002, and the second in 2004, in Singapore.

When I returned to Ireland, I was shocked to learn that doulas were not a ‘thing’ – so I became that ‘thing’, and brought doula training to Ireland for the first time in 2005.

These days, I work only with women who have histories of sexual violence, because there are plenty of doulas to serve the rest of the community. As a woman with my own history of child sexual abuse, and other forms of sexual violence, as well as a PhD in the area, I believe I am best placed to serve this cohort.

I am a birth (home or hospital), and post-partum doula and offer breastfeeding support where necessary.

Skills and Qualifications

Doula training with Michel Odent, and Lilana Lammers.
Constant researching and updating my knowledge.
BA (Hons) in Psychology & Sociology
MA in Sexuality Studies
LLM in International Human Rights Law (QUB)
PhD in Psychology (Child Sexual Abuse & Transgenerational Trauma)
Special Purpose Award in Responding to DV & CC

Skilled at remaining calm, offering clarity around communication with mothers and others.
Skilled at working with women who have histories of sexual violence.

As a special bonus, it turns out that I have naturally high levels of oxytocin in my body. This means that I often tip women who are birth-ready into labour just by spending time with them! 😊
